Sir Steve; "Hi, Steve I loved Saucer The Conquest I like your Si-Fi Twist. And your salute to Skeeter Dunn and Ward Carroll was a good laugh. I've enjoyed all your books. The Cannibal Queen is my favorite. But the Saucer Books are a nice change. Thank you for your time and Thanks for the adventures you have taken me on." --Dan Arnett April 6, 2006 "Stephen, I recently had the opportunity to buy your 2nd Saucer Book, The Conquest. I didn't realize there was a 1st so about the middle of the 2nd chapter I put the book down and strolled over to the Barnes and Nobles in Westlake Village CA. I was lucky because they had one copy of Saucer on the shelf. I finished that book in two days and want to thank you for a great ride. Now I am half way through Conquest and I've been invited to another great ride. At 50 years old I thought I would "outgrow" this type of literature, but gladly, here I am wanting more. I think you will be able to do another sequel with all the fanfare of the first two novels. Once we readers begin to identify with your characters, as we did with Jake Grafton we'll just keep coming back for more. I read your quote that you plan on one novel a year, and that a sequel makes it more difficult, well we never got tired of Grafton and I don't think we will of Rip and Ms. Pines. Thanks for everything!" -- Steve Golding April 5, 2006 "Stephen, I have read everything you have written and have enjoyed them all - I picked up a copy of "Saucer; The Conquest" thinking it was a new continuation of your "Saucer" IT WAS NOT, SAME STORY different cover and name. I have stopped purchasing CDs from some musicians because they rearrange the order of their most popular hits and release them as a new album. I would hope you are not falling prey to this action. Still like your story lines and personality development and still feel I got screwed buying "Saucer: The Conquest"! " -- Stephen Hanson March 29, 2006 "Good morning from Canada! I picked up a copy of Saucer: The Conquest while in Florida this winter, but it wasn't until last evening, back at home, that I got to sit down with it. Steve, it's a long time since I've actually read a novel in a sitting and a half, and I haven't had so much fun since . . . well, since I read 'Saucer'! Thanks for doing this, and I hope you'll find time between thrillers to take us with Rip and Charley to explore that mother ship..." -- Marty McAllister March 27, 2006 "I read in the FAQ that you haven't decided on whether to write another SAUCER book or not. If you're taking votes, put mine in the yes column. Just found and finished The Conquest. I have enjoyed all of your books and have followed Grafton's career throughout but for an absolute and purely fun read, the Saucer books have been great! Frankly, I'm not a kid at 47 but they took me back to the Tom Swift series. (Too long ago.) In any case, know that your efforts are appreciated. Keep it up! "Mr. Coonts, I want to thank you for a most enjoyable read. I had just finished the book SAUCER: THE CONQUEST and was compelled to respond to you. I think that, to date, this is your best effort ever. I have not been this thoroughly entertained by a book in such a very long time that I found myself losing a complete night's sleep, with no regrets. The humor contained in this novel was first rate order. With the refreshing character subplots, government conspiracies, and megalomania, All set in a very realistic presentation. While it resided in a science fictional format, the realism is inescapable. Abundant amounts of humor were interlaced with acceptable conjecture as to the theoretic function extraterrestrial transportation. All in all I would say a thoroughly enjoyable read that should not be Missed. My sincerest thanks," --Tony Bessol, March 18, 2006 "Dear Mr. Coonts: I just finished reading your book: SAUCER THE CONQUEST. I am rather disappointed with the the content, plot, technical info, and in general the whole book. Let me tell you why. For one, you could have used this book to explain fusion, the process our Sun uses to generate huge amount of energy,,, fusing hydrogen into helium. You could have use so many physics formulae to explain gravity, kinetics of rocketry, ballistics in space, solar energy and its benefits, and other areas. Another area of confusion; the so called 'emperor' had as his conditions so any good things that I am at large what was so bad about giving the people some security in jobs, food and shelter, and medical help. These are essential human rights without which one is not human. I live in Michigan where we have a huge exodus of jobs to China and real unemployment in Grand Rapids is about 20%, not %6, or seven as the government wants us to believe. I am a retired engineer and would be more than glad to share with you some of my computer programs that can be used to calculate many physics problems including impulse (rocketry), kinetics like banking for the plane's angle in making turns, conversion of one energy into another and you name it, I have. You missed an opportunity to explain to the readers the possibility that we in the U.S. could get 100% of all daily energy by installing solar panels in the area of 1/3 rd of the Mojave desert. See the book SOLAR LIVING SOURCEBOOK EDITED BY John Schaffer, distributed by Chelsea Green Publishing Company. I have read some 20-30 books by Jules Verne and many American writers in sci-fi, and found that most of these books were used to advance a new idea, concept, offer a hope for a better future. What did your book offer? Theories in sci-fi should be at least plausible, what theories are you providing that would leave us inspired? I am involved in solar energy and its application to civilian purposes. I have built many solar cookers, have solar lights around our home, and even a solar watch. If I were you, I would try to to promote in you books alternative energy, safer homes, elimination of greed and cronyism in politics, and other progressive ideas. Your books should not be just an opportunity to use a valuable resource like our forest, without giving something in return to society, like what to do to make this world better." -- Bozidar Kornic March 15, 2006 "Any thoughts or plans toward a third "Saucer" novel? I am a private pilot (low time) who has found that I just cannot put down either one of the existing "Saucer" novels! If there were to be a third "Saucer" novel, I would be waiting at the the local book store for the book shop to open on the new "Saucer" novel's release day.... Thanks for an INCREDIBLE RIDE in these two fabulous stories!!!!!" -- Del Mendenhall February 4, 2006 "I have read both the saucer and conquest. Loved them both. Would it be too much to ask for a third helping? Perhaps they find a way to travel to the saucer's point of origin, maybe even contact the race that built it. I remember at the end of conquest, some aussie had found a piece of a mother ship...... well anyway thanks for the excellent entertainment."-- Robert Watkins January 15, 2006 "Hello Stephen, I would just like to say thanks, thanks for SAUCER. what a fantastic book, un-put-downable, thanks for writing a sequel. If SAUCER is anything to go by, I know I will love it. I’ve just managed to order a copy on-line 'after lots of patience' (its always sold out). I'm going to be waiting for the postie every morning until it arrives.................keep up the good work & thanks again, your new friend" -- Mandi Morall January 11, 2006 "Hello Stephen, I have just had the pleasure of finding and reading your two books saucer & saucer the conquest. Being a hopeless sf addict I found your two novels fascinating, especially the finding of the first saucer in the Sahara, a place I have had the privilege to visit. God knows what the sands could hide from an age gone by. The end of the saucer conquest leaves us with the hint of a possible mother ship being discovered on the Great Barrier Reef. This hopefully leads us to yet another novel with the same fascinating possibilities of future space travel and who or what could be out there in our vast universe." -- Colin Farrell Jan 4, 2006 "Steve, never written to an author before, but I have read most of your books and really enjoyed the 2 saucer books. The end of Conquest left the door open for another book? PLEASE write it."-- Mark September 25, 2005 "I just finished "Saucer: The Conquest". This was a fun book to read. It > was hard to put down. I enjoyed the characterization of the French. > I especially liked the scene where the US President finds out that Charley > Pine stole the French spaceship and his reaction is relief that he is not in > the "hot seat." I wonder if that is how world leaders feel - I'm glad it's > the other guy. > Thanks for a book that not only kept my interest but made me chuckle." > > Karen Dahl September 11, 2005 "Just wanted to thank you for the 2 SAUCER books: Flat out great story telling. More Please." Mick Cody September 7, 2005 "I just finished your book "Saucer: The Conquest". I read "Saucer" some time ago, and was happy to see a sequel. "Hi from Oregon.. " Hello Mr. Coonts! I'm a 16 year old from Arizona and I inclined to say that you are by far the best author I've ever read. I hear all of this jazz about these famous authors from the past, that I should read their works. A few months ago, for a school project I had to read "The Great Gatsby". Now this book, it had no interest to a 16 year old. I have only been able to successfully read one series of books in my life yet and when I say successfully read I mean voluntarily pick up the book and read until I'm forced to stop. Catching me read is a VERY rare site and my English teacher was AMAZED to see me reading. As I am a big fan of Sci-Fi in all forms, naturally this has something to do with why I like your work. It is very easy for me to read, it's comfortable and It's something I could read over and over and never fail to be bored from it. I read the first book, "Saucer". And I was amazed not only that I took my own time to read a book, but also amazed at the graphic detail around every corner. I told my school librarian to order "Saucer: The Conquest". She got the first book! So I later found out that my father read Saucer and enjoyed it as well. I flipped out when I couldn't read The Conquest. It just so happens my father got the book from the library a few days ago. It took me three days to read in between school and other things. So, I've just finished reading it about a half hour ago and here I am writing this letter... I can only hope there will be another sequel to the book and that it's your next Mona Lisa! Awaiting your mother ship." --Levi Fraser, January 6, 2005 "I just finished your newest releases, SAUCER: THE CONQUEST and DEEP BLACK (#3). Each were what I expected, GREAT!! I can't wait for the next installment of each as well as more on the Grafton's and friends. I've read all your books and must say you are my favorite. Being a retired USAF bomber navigator and a civilian pilot when you write about aerial sequences I feel I am right in the cockpit with the character whether it be Jake, Toad, Rip, Charlie, or you flying your Stearman. Keep up the excellent work and please think of signing books at Oshkosh one year." --Rich Quinnette, January 6, 2005 "My husband and I have loved all your Jake Grafton/Tommy Carmellini adventures, but have been absolutely captivated by the SAUCER stories - just now reading the second. Do you realize, with your mind-controlled computer, you're following in the honored line of Meredith Wilson, whose "Music Man" promoted the 'think system' for high school musicians, and someone whose name I forget who promised, when I began golfing 30 years ago that 'if you think about it enough, it will work.' "To the best of my knowledge, I have read all of your books and greatly enjoyed each of them. SAUCER and SAUCER, THE CONQUEST have been a particular pleasure. One can tell that you enjoyed creating the stories as much as I did reading them. I can't wait to get to Australia. Thanks for the entertainment." --Tom Austin, Jr., November 14, 2004 "I just finished reading the saucer sequel, and I must say that it was very good, I could not put it down i took about six hours from start to finish to read. I didn't even know you had written a sequel until I read about it in entertainment weekly so I went out and bought it the next day. I was wondering if you had a third book in the works, the last page kind of hinted to it and I'm sure I am not the only one hoping for a third book. thanks for the great story." --Jon Hudson November 5, 2004 "Re SAUCER: THE CONQUEST--Please sir, may I have some more?"-- Bill Mangus, October 12, 2004 " Mr. Coonts, I have read nearly all of your novels. I find the degree of realism in them to be a breath of fresh air among the many action-adventure novels that I read. I just read SAUCER: THE CONQUEST two weeks ago, and found myself unable to put the blasted thing down. I read it all in one night, heheh. I am impressed with the way you are able to blend science fiction into reality so well. I almost feel like I should go to the Sahara Desert and start digging in the sand! I must say that your character Jake Grafton is one of my favorite characters in novels. He has a gritty, no-nonsense attitude that I truly enjoy reading about. Your self-deprecating sense of humor that you infused Grafton, and now Carmellini with is something I find to be a "telltale" of something written by Stephen Coonts... All in all, I just wanted to say thanks for some great adventures that I get to live in my head..." --Anthony Frank, October 5, 2004 "I live in Melbourne Beach, Florida where we have had two hurricanes, Frances and Jeanne, hit our area in the last two weeks. I thought it might interest you to know I had just got your new book SAUCER, THE CONQUEST the day before Jeanne hit. My wife decided that we should stay in our town house which is across A1A a few hundred feet from the Atlantic since Frances hit just south of us and we sustained minimal damage. What a Mistake. We had winds of 125mph sustained for several hours Saturday night. My wife spent the entire time in the downstairs bathtub scared senseless. I spent the night sitting on the stool and reading your book by candlelight. I absolutely could not put it down. I have read all of your books and enjoyed them very much but never has a book captured my attention so completely, or enjoyably. So thanks for helping me get through a trying and frightening time." --Bud Ford, October 2, 2004 " I just finished The Conquest and wanted to say BRAVO!!! Once again you've hit one out of the park. I hope the ending is a hint of a third book in the works." --August 31, 2004 |
